Ruth Roman
Ruth Roman, a screen actress who parlayed her electrically sexually charged mix of sexiness the wholesomeness of her character into Hollywood famous in the 1940's and 50's, died this week at her residence in Laguna Beach, Calif. She was 75. Richard Hall, her son confirmed the fact that she passed away asleep. In the wake of her first big role, opposite Kirk Douglas in Stanley Kramer's "Champion," the 1949 version of the Ring Lardner short story of an insane prize-fighter, Warner Brothers gave her starring roles in nine films in just two months. On one occasion, she leapt from playing Bette Davis in "Beyond Forest'' and then starring alongside Milton Berle in ''Always Leave Them Laughing.'' She was taken to 'Tomorrow Is Another Day, with Steve Cochran as the lead and Steve Cochran, one week after finishing the film 'Strangers on a train.''
